Setting Your Status & Availability

Setting your status in collaboration tools like Slack and Microsoft Teams helps the Forge Marketing team know when you’re available, busy, or away. This improves communication, reduces delays, and ensures efficient teamwork.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Setting Your Status in Slack

  1. Open Slack and click your profile picture in the top-right corner.
  2. Click “Set status”.
  3. Choose from common options or create a custom status:
    • Available / Online
    • Away / Be right back
    • Do Not Disturb / Focused
    • Out of Office
  4. Optionally, set a status duration (e.g., 1 hour, until tomorrow, or custom).

Tips:

  • Use emojis to make your status visually clear.
  • Update your status before starting focused work or leaving for meetings.

2. Setting Your Status in Microsoft Teams

  1. Open Teams and click your profile picture in the top-right corner.
  2. Select “Set status message” or change status:
    • Available
    • Busy / In a meeting
    • Do not disturb
    • Away / Offline
  3. Optionally, include a status message with additional info (e.g., “Working on AcmeCorp proposal, back at 3 PM”).

Tips:

  • Teams automatically updates status during meetings or calls.
  • You can schedule a status message to appear when you’re out of the office.

3. Best Practices for Forge Marketing

  • Keep your status up-to-date to avoid delays in communication.
  • Use Do Not Disturb during focused work or client calls.
  • Check your status at the start of the day and after meetings.
  • Combine status with calendar availability for clarity.

4. Troubleshooting

  • Status not updating - Refresh the app or log out and back in
  • Others can’t see status - Check privacy settings in Slack or Teams
  • Auto-status not accurate - Adjust Teams or Slack settings for automatic updates
