Setting Up Slack & Joining Channels

Slack is Forge Marketing’s primary communication platform for team collaboration, project updates, and quick discussions. Setting it up correctly ensures you stay connected and informed.

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Installing Slack

  1. Download Slack on your device:
    1. Desktop: Slack for Windows/Mac
    2. Mobile: Search for Slack in the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).
  2. Open the app and click “Sign In”.

Step 2: Logging Into the Workspace

  1. Enter your Forge Marketing email address.
  2. Check your email for the Slack invitation link and click “Join Workspace”.
  3. Set up your display name and profile picture.

Step 3: Joining Channels

  1. Click “Channels” in the left sidebar → “Browse channels”.
  2. Join channels relevant to your role or projects, for example:
    1. general – Company-wide announcements
    2. marketing-team – Marketing team discussions
    3. project-[ClientName] – Client-specific project updates
    4. social-media – Social media campaign discussions
  3. Click “Join” to become a member of the channel.

Step 4: Communicating Effectively

  • Use @mentions to notify specific team members.
  • Use threads to reply to messages and keep conversations organized.
  • Share files directly in channels or messages for team access.
  • Use emojis and reactions to acknowledge messages quickly.

Step 5: Best Practices

  • Keep conversations professional and relevant to the channel topic.
  • Mute channels that are not relevant to reduce distractions.
  • Check notifications regularly to stay updated on projects.
  • Use Slack search to find past messages or files.

Step 6: Troubleshooting

  • Cannot sign in - Confirm your email and Slack invite; contact IT if needed
  • Missing channels - Browse channels or ask your manager to add you
  • Notifications not working -Check notification settings in Slack and on your device
